There’s perhaps nothing tougher in cycling than racing against the clock. In a time trial, you’re forced to push beyond your limits, every second a battle. For a photographer, though, it’s a very different challenge. The opportunities to capture something special somehow feel greater, the odds tipped in your favour.

From behind the lens, it tells another story. The solitude, the rhythm, the strain etched on faces… and yet, the chance to capture something fleeting, almost fragile. Shapes blur into colour, colours into motion. A tilt of the head, the curve of a body, the landscape rushing by… fragments that become a portrait of the race itself.

This series is a small selection from the short but explosive time trial of the Simac Ladies Tour on 6 September 2025.
Zoe Bäckstedt stormed to victory over the 10.2 km course, stopping the clock at 12 minutes 34 seconds… an astonishing ride at an average speed of 48.7 km/h!

The Clock’s Command
The bars bite my hands, salt stings in my eyes.
Each second a hammer that never complies.
Skin screams against air, the numbers demand.
I break on the line for the record’s command.
